PBIS Matrix

James Simons is a PBIS school that reinforces positive behaviors.  Please review the PBIS Matrix below so you are aware of the expectations we promote for a safe and positive learning experience.


Voice Levels:  0 = Silent 1 = Whisper quietly  2 = Talk quietly to a small group 3 = Talk so whole group/class can hear 4 = Outside voice

Be Respectful

(Treat others as you would like to be treated.)

  • Observes walls and displays with eyes only

  • Honor others’ personal space

  • Keep an appropriate distance from the walls

  • Maintain voice level 0 while in hallways

  • Put away all devices when asked

  • Use appropriate device volume or headphones

  • Follow the teacher’s directions for storing devices

  • Honor others’ privacy

  • Be considerate of others –  always leave the restroom clean

  • Keep walls free of drawings, marks or words.

  • Voice level 0

  • Use “please”, “thank you” and “excuse me”

  • Use good table manners

  • Voice level 0 while in the serving line

  • Eating comes before talking

  • Speak at voice level 1-2

  • Clean your floor and table when directed by an adult

  • Use equipment properly

  • Allow all children to participate in games

  • Use hands and feet for helping, working, and playing

  • Voice level 0-4

  • Greet the bus driver when entering

  • Quickly take your seat

  • Talk quietly to the person sitting beside you

  • Thank the bus driver when exiting

  • Voice levels 0-1

  • Place litter in trash cans

  • Pick up litter wherever it is found

  • Always leave the area clean and orderly for the next person

  • Put materials away properly

  • Maintain voice level appropriate for the area

Be Responsible

(Be accountable for your actions. Do what you are supposed to do.)

  • Walk in a single line

  • Keep an appropriate distance from

  the wall

  • Walk on the right side of the hallway and stairway

  • Keep arms and hands by your side

  • Use handrails when on stairs

  • Always face forward

  • Visit district approved sites only

  • Use devices only for academic purposes

  • Follow the technology use agreement

  • Handle devices with care

  • Use restroom in a timely manner

  • Wash and dry hands before leaving

  • Clean up after yourself – always leave restroom clean

  • Conserve water, paper and soap

  • Report problems to an adult

  • Knock gently

  • Keep all food on your tray

  • Eat your own food

  • Stay seated unless given permission by an adult

  • Carefully sort all waste and recyclables

  • Gently stack trays in window

  • Clean all spills and dropped food or ask an adult for help

  • Ask permission from your teacher before leaving the playground

  • Use hands and feet appropriately

  • Immediately respond/stop playing when called

  • Put all equipment away  

  • Walk to line up

  • Be at the bus stop 15 minutes before scheduled pick-up

  • Sit appropriately in your seat

  • Stay in your seat at all times

  • Keep all items with you at your seat

  • Take all items when leaving the bus

  • Consume food and drink after you leave the bus

  • Clean any markings from tables, walls and floors

  • Immediately clean any messes or spills

  • Maintain a voice level 0 when the universal signal for silence is given

  • Keep gum and sunflower seeds at home

  • Carry a hall pass

  • Go directly to and from destination

  • Use silent wave and a smile

  • Follow instructions for appropriate device use and care

  • Return signed technology use agreement form

  • Patiently wait your turn to use the restroom

  • Keep hands free of items other than a hall pass

  • Raise hand for assistance

  • Talk only to people beside or across from you

  • Get everything needed when going through the line

  • Snacks only after healthy lunch with adult permission

  • Enter and exit cafeteria at voice level 0

  • Follow game rules

  • Ask permission to use equipment or items that are not yours

  • Wear shoes safe for the playground

  • Use the restroom before going outside

  • Raise your hand to get the bus driver’s attention

  • Report any issues to the bus driver

  • Conserve paper, water, tissue, paper towels, soap, etc.

  • Recycle

  • Always be conscious of ways to help maintain and improve the environment

  • Wait patiently at voice level 0 for dismissal at the end of the day
