The USC students read stories to CD through 3rd grade classes and told students how important reading was to them in school now and in their future jobs.

Christmas Around the World Studies
Students studied Christmas and other holidays in different continents with each grade level being assigned a continent. Fifth graders studied Chinese New Year, created paper dragons and displayed them outside their classroom. Ms. Riddy, Ms. Adkins and Ms. Lesemann worked with students to conduct research about Chinese inventions and write about those inventions. These fifth grade classes won a school-wide competition for their door decorations.
Students learned to eat with chop sticks and enjoyed fried rice prepared by Ms. Lesemann and Ms. Brown.

Helping The Puppies!
To learn more about writing and creating, fifth-grade students in Ms. McMullan's class at James Simons Elementary School created fabric dog toys with nationally-known crafter and published author Vivian Perritts (and former Charleston County schools student). The dog toys are being donated to a local dog shelter.
