Congratulations Angie Greene-Finalist for CCSD Teacher of the Year 2016
JSE Guidance Counselor Angie Greene was  chosen as one of CCSD's top five finalists for 2016 TeachMs. Greene with Ms. White & Ms. Ryaner of the Year. Ms. Greene has been an educator at James Simons Elementary School for over 30
 years!  She is a graduate of Winthrop University and has a Master's Degree in Elementary School Guidance from the Citadel.  She began her career as a classroom teacher, then became certified as a Reading Recovery specialist and worked as the school's Reading Interventionist.  She has been James Simons' Guidance Counselor since 2011.

JSE students took first place in the Charleston Promise Neighborhood Social Studies Bowl held on Thursday, February 20 at the Charleston Museum.

Pictured here are Barbara Ford Morrison and Oveta Glover, the two women who were the first to desegregate James Simons in 1963.  They and other honored guests were invited to an official dedication ceremony for the new building on April 30.

JSECoach Josia Strong was given the Mark Cobb Transformation Award for her dedication to health and wellness at James Simons Elementary. Coach Strong has created a culture of wellness at James Simons by encouraging staff and students to lead healthier lives.   Coach Strong also established the James Simons Tennis Team and consistently teaches the relationship between healthy lifestyles and learning.  





Charleston Historical Preservation Society Honors James Simons Elementary.  (April 2013)

JSE 1963In 1963 James Simons Elementary was one of four elementary schools to desegregate in the city of Charleston.  The Charleston Historical Preservation Society has named our school as one of "Seven  to Save"  sites because of it's importance in the Civil Rights era.  Read more @the Preservation Society's webpage -
